AIE welcomes the $2 billion New South Wales energy agreement announced today, particularly the commitment to increase gas supply.

The Port Kembla Energy Terminal (PKET), once sanctioned, will provide a rapid, low capital, flexible, predominately floating infrastructure option to connect NSW with domestic and global gas supplies. It also has the capacity to provide NSW with well in excess of the NSW government’s new 70 petajoule target.

The AIE partners, including Squadron Energy Pty Ltd, believe natural gas has a part to play in many energy-intensive manufacturing industries, as well as being a transition fuel to a lower carbon future. In the electricity sector, natural gas can also play a significant role in helping to reinforce grid reliability while we invest in greater levels of renewable energy.
