Squadron Energy has today announced the appointment of Audrey Zibelman to its Advisory Board.

Ms Zibelman is a former Australian Energy Market Operator Managing Director and CEO. She was also previously Chair of the New York Public Service Commission, where she was an appointed member of the Governor’s cabinet and oversaw the electricity, gas, water, steam and communication utilities of New York State.

US President Joe Biden recently appointed Ms Zibelman to serve on the National Infrastructure Advisory Council (NIAC).

Ms Zibelman is also a Vice President at X, Alphabet’s Moonshot factory where she advises on breakthrough climate technology, including Tapestry, X’s project to digitise the electricity grid.

She is also a non-executive board member of the Rocky Mountain Institute’s Board of Trustees and EOS Energy, a US battery manufacturer.

Squadron Energy CEO Eva Hanly said Ms Zibelman brings a wealth of diverse global experience to the role and will provide valuable strategic advice as the business evolves.

“Audrey is among the energy industry’s most experienced and respected global leaders. She has worked tirelessly to make energy cleaner, reliable and affordable for consumers,” Ms Hanly said.

“Squadron Energy is committed to decarbonising the economy with large scale and high impact projects. We believe Australia can become a green energy superpower and want to bring the investment and capability to do this.

“We’re thrilled to have Audrey join our Advisory Board and the gain the benefit of her vast experience.”

Ms Zibelman said Squadron Energy had the opportunity to play a key role in Australia’s energy transition.

“Squadron Energy is supporting the energy system’s transition to renewable power sources. I’m pleased that I’ll be playing a role in that journey as a member of its Advisory Board,” Ms Zibelman said.

“Rapid decarbonisation can be achieved, and we need innovative businesses like Squadron Energy to help lead the change. Squadron Energy has a significant portfolio of infrastructure assets in development that will support the energy system’s transition to renewable sources.”

Renewable energy company, Squadron Energy is building the largest grid-connected renewable energy development in Australia – the Clarke Creek wind, solar and battery farm in Queensland, as well as the Port Kembla Energy Terminal, and is proposing the first dual-fuel 50% hydrogen power station at Port Kembla.

Squadron Energy Chairman John Hartman welcomed Ms Zibelman’s appointment.
