Squadron Energy welcomes the 2024-25 Federal Budget as one that reinforces the importance of the renewable energy transition to Australia’s economy and its role in delivering affordable, reliable and clean energy to households and businesses.
Squadron
Energy CEO Rob Wheals welcomed the Future Made in Australia package: “Ensuring
Australian families, communities and businesses benefit from the clean energy
transition is critical. Future Made in Australia ensures the right settings are
in place to deliver viable local manufacturing when and where it best makes
sense.
“We
have the potential to be a clean energy superpower – government and industry
now need to work together to realise this ambition.”
As
a 100% Australian owned renewable energy developer and operator, Squadron
Energy has a long history of developing renewable energy in Australia and has
five operational wind farms across NSW and Victoria, two more under
construction in NSW and Queensland, and is committed to launching 14GW of
projects by 2030.
The
Future Made in Australia plan will support Squadron Energy’s efforts to
increase local maintenance and manufacturing opportunities in future projects,
where appropriate.
“With significant global momentum towards net zero emissions, Australia is now competing for capital, technologies, and skilled workers, and we need ambitious government support, incentives and policy certainty to ensure we lock in the potential for future economic growth,” Mr Wheals said.
This
year’s budget builds on previously introduced initiatives, such as the National
Reconstruction Fund, Powering the Regions Fund and the Capacity Investment
Scheme (CIS).
“The
CIS will provide a level of investor certainty to enable confidence in making
substantial and accelerated commitments to build more renewable projects to
support our nation’s 2030 target,” Mr Wheals said.
