Stage One of Squadron Energy’s Clarke Creek Wind Farm has successfully completed generation registration with the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) for the project's central substation.

“This milestone paves the way for participating in National Electricity Market and starting grid testing. It also means the project will start generating and exporting renewable energy as it progresses through the grid testing process,” said Clarke Creek Wind Farm Project Director, John Macchiusi.

“This is another step forward for Clarke Creek Wind Farm as construction onsite continues, with major work progressing and we are now over halfway with our oversize overmass (OSOM) deliveries.”

“It also means some of our turbines will start to spin for the first time.”

Substation energisation started in September, which is the process of allowing electricity to flow through the system and is essential for the wind turbines to start generating power.

Stage One of the Clarke Creek Wind Farm is located 150km north-west of Rockhampton and 150km south of Mackay on the land of the Barada Kabalbara Yetimarala (BKY) peoples.

The project has created more than 350 jobs during construction and is injecting $110 million into the regional economy.

Once operational, the 450MW wind farm will produce enough electricity to power around 330,000 Queensland homes and avoid 738,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.
