Twelve Inverell Shire Community Organisations will share in almost $90,000 of funding thanks to round 1 of the 2025 Sapphire Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund.

Twice a year, Squadron Energy’s Sapphire Wind Farm invites local community organisations to submit applications for a share of funding that can be used on equipment and infrastructure purchases, repairs and renovations, and programs and events.

One of the successful applicants sharing this funding is the Rotary Club of Inverell, being awarded $10,000 to purchase a new coffee machine for their mobile coffee van.

Kate George, Community Service Director of Rotary Club of Inverell expressed her excitement after learning the Club’s application was successful.

"The current machine is aging and getting difficult to use. A new machine will enable the club to train more members in its use and to be present at more community events. This in turn helps generate funds that are returned to the community. Being in the public space allows Rotarians to talk to people and get ideas about ways Rotary can help them."

The Rotary Club of Inverell set up their coffee van at local community events such as the markets, the Christmas Fair, netball carnivals and events held at the National Transport Museum.

“Funds raised from the sale of coffee go back into the local community to support groups like Food for the Soul, St Vincent de Paul and the Salvation Army. The club also supports local young people by subsidising excursion costs and encouraging participation in programs such as NYSF (National Youth Science Forum), RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award), RYAG Sheep, an IT exchange to North Ryde and public speaking."

Sapphire Wind Farm Site Manager David Wiliamson said this is a great example of how the project is providing benefits to the entire community.

“We know these funds mean a lot to those who receive them, and help these organisations to make a huge impact in the local community.”
