Magpies, which were swooping workers during vegetation clearing at Squadron Energy's Uungula Wind Farm site, have been rescued and relocated by the project team.

The magpie’s nest was identified in a tree that was earmarked for removal as part of the clearing works.

Uungula Wind Farm Environmental Advisor Cindy Smith said the team identified a suitable nearby Eucalypt to relocate the nest, with the two chicks inside and allowed the adults to keep caring for their young.

“The team carefully worked to move the nest, undisturbed, while under surveillance from the parent magpies,” Ms Smith said.

“The nest was moved to an adjacent tree, placed and secured in position by wire.

“We monitored the new nest location ensuring that the parents had accepted its relocation and continued the feeding and raising of their young.

"The team worked closely with the Tree Contractors, using a combined effort to minimise impact to the fauna on the project."
