Squadron Energy, Australia’s leading renewable energy company, is proud to share that the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water has identified Moreton Hill Wind Farm and Spicers Creek Wind Farm as priority renewable energy projects.
These projects will be included on the National Renewable Energy Priority List, meaning they will be eligible for regulatory uplift extending through to the start of construction.
Squadron Energy Head of Project Development, Trish McDonald said this was a great win for these vital projects.
“This shows that these renewable energy projects are of national significance,” Trish said.
“We are thrilled that we will be able to work with the government to gain support for faster decisions on approvals and post approval requirements so we can get shovels in the ground on these projects and work on the renewable transition at the pace needed.”
The Priority List initiative has been developed by the Commonwealth in collaboration with state and territory governments.
Projects on the list may receive enhanced regulatory support under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) including:
- priority validation in referrals gateway
- dedicated EPBC case manager through your project’s lifecycle
- immediate review of assessment documents
- expert line area prioritisation within the department.
The proposed Moreton Hill Wind Farm is located on Wadawurrung Country, about 35km southwest of Ballarat in Victoria. It will have up to 62 turbines, producing enough electricity to power around 260,000 homes and prevent almost 350,000 tonnes of emissions annually.
The proposed Spicers Creek Wind Farm is located on Wiradjuri Country, west of Gulgong and north east of Wellington in NSW, within the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone. The proposed wind project received state approval in October 2024 and comprises up to 117 wind turbines and battery energy storage.
