Squadron Energy welcomes today’s announcement by the NSW Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Penny Sharpe that Australia's first declared Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) will formally commence construction within months.
The Central-West Orana REZ is set to deliver at least 4.5 gigawatts of new network capacity by 2028, connecting 7.7 gigawatts of wind and solar projects, which will generate sufficient power for over 2 million homes annually. Additionally, the REZ will support over 5,000 construction jobs and bring $20 billion in private investment into the region by 2030.
Squadron Energy has a significant presence in the Central-West Orana REZ with several key projects in construction and development, including the proposed Spicers Creek Wind Farm which is west of Gulgong and seeking to connect to the REZ infrastructure. Spicers Creek Wind Farm received NSW project approval in October 2024 and Commonwealth project approval last month.
Other projects in the region include Uungula Wind Farm near Wellington, which is currently under construction as well as the proposed Dubbo Firming Power project.
Creating a lasting economic legacy for the regions in which we develop and operate renewable energy assets is just as important as the infrastructure itself. Alongside our renewable energy projects in construction and development, we have also partnered with Dubbo Regional Council to deliver an advanced wastewater treatment facility to provide local water security in the long-term.
Squadron Energy is deeply committed to the Central-West Orana region and collaborating with landholders, community members and all levels of government to ensure our renewable energy projects deliver long-term economic value for the region.
