Squadron Energy has put its support behind Rural Fire Service volunteers working across the Central West-Orana region to complete a specialised leadership program.
Fourteen firefighters from the NSW RFS Orana Team took part in the successful pilot leadership program hosted by Forsythes Training over a four-month period last year.
The volunteers came from brigades in Wellington, Dubbo, Narromine and Trangie – a district that records an average of 500 incidents per year, including assisting other agencies.
RFS volunteers had varying firefighting experience, with Captains, a Deputy Captain and relatively new members participating.
Squadron Energy’s Uungula Wind Farm supported the program as part of a regional sponsorship, with participants meeting for a series of interactive workshops and practical sessions focused on strengthening and supporting leadership skills within the emergency services.

Exercises involved working on communication, problem solving, planning and decision making, exploring qualities of an effective leader and learning to manage emotions.
Guest speakers also shared their personal leadership journeys, insights, and their own views on leading teams and communities during challenging situations.
“The program not only built individual confidence and capability but also strengthened teamwork and leadership capacity across the Orana RFS,” a NSW RFS spokesperson said.
“Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the value in investing in the personal and professional growth of our volunteers.”
Volunteers agreed that the program provided a positive experience including comradery, shared experiences and shared learning from one another.
