A welcoming and safe space for local families and those travelling through Bookham is on the way, with Squadron Energy funding a new playground for the rest stop on the Hume Highway.
The playground will feature a soft fall surface, swing, climbing equipment, bridge and a slide.
Squadron Energy Senior Project Manager Nigel Barton said the team worked with the Yass Valley Council and the community to identify a potential sponsorship project aligned with the Bookham Masterplan.
“We are pleased to be helping deliver a valuable community asset which will be enjoyed by locals with young children and help attract road trippers to take a break and spend time in Bookham,” Mr Barton said.
“We are pleased to support the Bookham Community Association in the development of the new rest area playground, made possible through funding support from Squadron Energy,” Yass Valley Council Manager Community Spaces, Denis Chan said.
“We look forward to the delivery of this important project, which will provide lasting benefits to the local community as well as interstate travellers and families journeying through the region,” Mr Chan said.
Bookham Community Association President Tess Julian said that the playground would not only be the centre of attraction for all the young families in the district but also for families travelling the Hume Highway.
“It is a major step forward in reviving the life of the village and making it a welcome portal to the Yass Valley,” Ms Julian said.
“We are extremely grateful to Squadron Energy for recognising the importance of this project which will be enjoyed by many future generations.”
Site clearing and set out has been completed, with the playground expected to be open for fun mid year.
