Statement from Western NSW Industry Group:
Far Northwest and Western NSW have some of the best energy resources in Australia. This inland sea of wind and sun could provide more than 10GW of energy to support NSW’s growth including homes, businesses, mining, and industry.
This region also has a lower population density, supportive farmers and fewer landholders.
Access to this region through coordinated transmission would enhance NSW’s energy security and affordability, and support regional economic growth.
We are supportive of the current energy roadmap. Consistency of government energy policy is critical if companies are to continue to invest with confidence in the energy transition. Complementary to existing developments, the increasing electricity demand from electric vehicles, electrification and data centres means we need to continue building additional renewable generation. Our aim is to deliver affordable and reliable electricity to the people of NSW.
We welcome and support governments working together in a bi-partisan way at both State and Federal levels to unlock this opportunity.
