The next stage of the Uungula Wind Farm road upgrade work is starting on Ilgingery Road, Wuuluman.

A key part of planning for the widening of the road includes protecting fauna that use hollows in roadside trees. The design of the road includes retaining as many trees as possible to ensure a continued and safe habitat for local fauna.

Tree clearing work starts on Tuesday 22 October 2024 with the main construction work getting underway from Tuesday 29 October 2024.

Work will include:

  • road traffic management including stop signs and reduced speed limits
  • relocation of existing services
  • selective clearing and soil stripping
  • widening and upgrading existing culverts underneath the road
  • excavating and removing old culverts
  • widening and stabilisation of new road surface.

Protection of flora and fauna during this work follows environmental guidelines outlined in the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. All work is required to comply with the project’s planning approval conditions as well as strict state government requirements.

The Ilgingery Road upgrade will improve conditions for road users while allowing the delivery of equipment and components needed for project construction.

Completion of the upgrade is currently expected for early 2025, weather and site conditions permitting.
