Strong safety results support the need for a continual health and safety improvement journey, according to CWP Renewables Health and Safety Manager Scott Batey.

As we enter the final quarter of 2022, we also mark National Safe Work Month – with SafeWork Australia this year encouraging workplaces to know safety, work safely and make health and safety at work a priority.
At CWP Renewables, we’ve been fortunate enough to pass an important milestone in our continual efforts to further strengthen our health and safety culture, achieving 12 months recordable injury free mid-way throughout the year for the first time. We’ve maintained this record for a further three months.
This outstanding achievement further strengthens our commitment to safety first as one of our core values. We continue to prioritise the health and wellbeing of our employees, our communities and our customers.
It is a credit to all teams across CWPR and our contractor partners, with our focus on lead indicators and willingness to engage in health and safety discussions helping us along to this milestone.
Whilst this has been an exciting achievement – these good results certainly don’t mean we’ve become complacent in our continual health and safety improvement journey.
This year we have developed our health and safety strategy, with key improvement action areas focussing on:
- Safety culture and maturity
- WHS risk management
- Contractor management
- Auditing and compliance
- Safety reporting
- Governance
We have also further strengthened our controls for one of most significant business-wide risks – vehicles and driving.
We’ve installed in-vehicle monitoring systems (IVMS) and lone worker systems across our fleet, with the lone worker systems allowing CWPR to maintain communication with our field teams when working in remote locations.
The IVMS devices record a range of information about a driver behaviour and vehicle performance – complementing the defensive and 4WD training we already undertake. These systems will allow us to further manage our fleet proactively and provide coaching to staff where required.
Health and safety will always remain a key priority at CWPR, however during October we take the time to bring further attention to the areas of our business that require additional health and safety focus and improvement.
