Modification submitted for temporary workers accommodation at Spicers Creek Wind Farm

If approved, the accommodation, will be located on Sweeneys Lane and house up to 600 workers during peak construction of the Spicers Creek Wind Farm.

The facility would be temporary and operate under strict management arrangements and existing environmental, traffic and amenity controls.

Community feedback – received via an online survey and meetings in Elong Elong and with businesses in Dunedoo – helped shape the Modification Report, which outlines a community benefit package to ensure locals see lasting value from the project.

Squadron Energy Head of Project Development, Trish McDonald, said the renewable energy company is committed to working with the Central West Orana community to help solve real, local problems like water security, housing supply and digital connectivity.

“In the Central-West alone we have already invested tens of millions of dollars on upgrading roads, as well as more than $6 million to date on legacy infrastructure and community projects,” Trish said.

“We are partnering with Dubbo Regional Council to deliver legacy infrastructure like the $7 million Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility at the Dubbo Sewerage Treatment Plant, which will go a long way towards helping drought-proof the region.”

How the temporary accommodation would operate

  • The facility would operate 24/7 during construction, with peak activity around shift changes.
  • Locating accommodation near the wind farm is expected to reduce daily commuting traffic between Dubbo and the project area.
  • Access would be via a dedicated entry off Sweeneys Lane, after the Golden Highway-Sweeneys Lane intersection.
  • Site rules, security arrangements and designated quiet hours would apply, with restrictions on evening movements off-site.
  • Facilities would include modular accommodation and central services for meals, first aid, recreation and administration, including on-site paramedic support during construction activities.
  • If approved, the accommodation would operate for the construction period and then be fully decommissioned, with buildings removed and the land rehabilitated.
