Squadron Energy, Australia’s leading renewable energy company, has welcomed news its Spicers Creek Wind Farm in New South Wales has been selected for the federal government’s Capacity Investment Scheme.
The 700MW wind farm located in the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (CWO REZ) is one of seven successful NSW generation projects in the first national tender process.
Squadron Energy CEO Rob Wheals said the move was an important step in realising the transition to clean, affordable and reliable energy.
“The Capacity Investment Scheme is playing a crucial role in unlocking the investment needed to meet our renewable energy targets,” Mr Wheals said.
“Spicers Creek Wind Farm is one of the largest approved wind farms in NSW and will make a significant contribution to renewable energy generation. At 700MW, it will power the equivalent of around 395,000 homes.
“It will also help avoid 650,000 tonnes of carbon emissions a year, making an important impact in reducing emissions from the electricity sector.”
Spicers Creek Wind Farm will create more than 330 jobs and inject $47 million into the regional economy. The project includes up to 117 wind turbines and battery energy storage located on Wiradjuri Country, west of Gulgong and north-east of Wellington.
Work is currently underway on detailed design, management plans and other secondary approvals, to get the project shovel ready for the CWO REZ.
