More than 2,000 students, educators and industry representatives explored future career pathways at this year’s Western Victorian Careers Expo, with Squadron Energy highlighting opportunities in the growing renewable energy sector.
The expo welcomed students from Years 9 to 12, along with teachers, parents and local businesses from across the region at the Wimmera Events Centre on Tuesday.
Squadron Energy hosted a stall to engage with attendees and share insights into careers in renewable energy and regional employment opportunities.
Squadron Energy Senior Community Relations Advisor Sara Wilson said the level of interest from students highlighted a strong appetite to learn more about careers linked to the energy transition in regional areas.
“It was great to see such strong interest from students who are already thinking about their future and how they can be part of the energy transition, particularly in regional communities,” Ms Wilson said.
The event, hosted by Wimmera and Southern Mallee Careers Association, showcased a diverse range of education and training pathways, with schools, universities, TAFEs, businesses and industry groups providing information and advice across a wide range of sectors.
From hands-on trade demonstrations to information sessions on tertiary courses and vocational training, the Expo provided practical insights to help students plan their next steps.
Squadron Energy’s Murra Warra Wind Farm is located at 25 kilometres north of Horsham in the Wimmera. Murra Warra Wind Farm has 61 turbines and generates enough energy to power more than 200,000 homes and prevent around 765,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
