Today’s release of the National Climate Risk Assessment (NCRA) by the Federal Government reinforces that we need to urgently get on with the job of building the power system of the future by replacing aging and high emissions coal electricity generation with clean renewable energy.
The report has identified severe risks with catastrophic impacts for Australians if we don’t do more to cut climate pollution.
We need to act now.
We are just days away from the government releasing its emissions target for 2035. This report reinforces our call for Australia to adopt a 75 per cent emissions reduction target – a legislated target aligned to 1.5°C.
This target would provide investor confidence and demonstrate that we are committed to protecting Australians from the potential catastrophic climate impacts identified in the report.
